============================================================================== Bus Mouse Connector to Amiga Mouse Connector Pin Outs John Rauh November 14, 1991 ============================================================================== FILES: ===== MouseMan.TXT - This file... PinOuts.IFF - Pin Out Diagram 640 x 400 x 2 IFF DESCRIPTION: =========== For a few weeks now I have been in search of a replacement for my Amiga Mouse. None of the available 3rd Party Mice looked that much better than the original so I started looking at IBM Compatible mice. A much larger selection and better prices but would they work?!? I decided that a "Bus Mouse Version" with an adaptor cable should do the job. The idea is to make an adaptor cable by taking the Bus Mouse extension cable and cutting off the 9-Pin DIN male connector to replace it with a DB9F female connector. This makes a female 9-Pin DIN to female 9-Pin DB9 adaptor cable. Also Know As "The IBM Compatible Bus Mouse to Amiga Mouse Adaptor Cable" or the "ICBM-to-AMAC" for short..... The adaptor cable is better than just cutting off the Bus Mouse cable's connector, replacing with the proper Amiga connector, because you may decide you don't like the mouse and want to return it (I've returned two mice...). WARNINGS: ======== The Bus Mouse Connector generally doesn't have pin #1 marked and it is unknown if each manufacturer follows the same pin out standard. You may want to open your mouse and trace out a few of the Mouse Buttons with a continuity tester to verify if the pin out locations are the same. It is not a good idea to think that the color codes will be wired properly for each cable. Check with continuity tester. You are responsible for any damage from using this information. It is assumed that you have prior knowledge in making cables from pin out descriptions. PIN OUTS: ======== After much trial & error here are the Pin Outs for connecting a PC Bus Mouse to the Amiga's Mouse Port via an adaptor cable. See the file "PinOuts.IFF" which should be included in this "MouseMan.LZH" archive for a diagram of the physical location of each pin. The MouseMan also has three Mouse Buttons and high (400 dpi) resolution. Due to the MouseMan's higher resolution (400 dpi vs 300 dpi Amiga Mouse) you may want to "turn down" your mouse accelerator. Got a very good price at the Computer Swap Meet last weekend. Less than a certain "bouncing" optical 3 Button Amiga Mouse which has been around for quite a while now. Even found a Bus Mouse extension cable with that weird Logitech MouseMan 9-Pin DIN connector. Much better prices & selections. In fact, there is a certain "golden" mouse "OLD-style" OEM version (which was a nicer height than the glossy new OEM Mouse these "golden" people have just recently switched to...) that has three buttons and is available in an IBM Compatible Serial Mouse Version for $19. However, it looks like the Bus Mouse might begin to gain in popularity as more IBM Graphics Boards include a Bus Mouse port. MISC: ==== Thanks to Mike Riley for the Bus Mouse pin out information.
